Je suis né le 11.08.1938 à Salford, près de Manchester, Angleterre, d’une famille de sept enfants. A l’âge de sept ans, j’ai perdu mon père, mort dans l’exercice de ses fonctions de pompier, lors d’un tragique accident à la fin de la Deuxième Guerre Mondiale et ma mère a dû élever seule ses enfants.
Dès mon plus jeune âge, j’ai commencé a dessiner sur tout ce qui me tombait sous la main: enveloppes, bouts de papier, etc. A l’école, je dessinais régulièrement des caricatures et des histoires pour amuser mes camarades.
A l’âge de onze ans, j’ai gagné un concours de dessin organisé par le journal local, doté d’un prix astronomique de…. 10 shillings (50 pence)!
Bien qu'on m'ait offert une place dans l'école d'art de Salford à l’âge de quinze ans, je n'ai pu l'accepter du fait que ma mère n'avait pas les moyens de financer ma formation, et j'ai dû trouver un travail pour contribuer à l'entretien de la famille: j'ai été engagé comme apprenti plombier pendant cinq ans tout en suivant des cours qui m'ont permis d'acquérir une formation solide dans ce domaine et dans tous ceux qui sont liés en général a la construction.
J'aimais mon travail, ce qui ne m'a pas empêché de continuer pendant mon temps libre à peindre, dessiner et explorer différents moyens d'expression, obtenant parfois des commandes. J'aimais beaucoup l'aquarelle et le dessin, et ce qui me plaisait surtout à l'époque c'était de caricaturer les stars du show-biz ou de réaliser des bandes dessinées.
Au début, je travaillais surtout pour l’industrie du bâtiment puis je me suis orienté aussi vers la scénographie, la décoration et la gestion d’hôtels, de restaurants, de casinos ou de night-clubs. Ce qui m'a permis finalement d'ouvrir mon propre club puis mon propre « pub ».
J'avais deux grandes ambitions dans la vie:
1. Après avoir travaillé dans plusieurs grands clubs de Manchester, je voulais créer et diriger avec succès mon propre night-club, ce que j'ai fait avec le « Roystons ».
2. Déménager un jour dans le Sud de la France pour mieux me concentrer sur ma peinture et parvenir à en vivre. J'ai pu m'installer à Hyères dans le Var et maintenant je réalise cette ambition!
A Hyères, j'ai été très honoré que l’on m'invite à faire partie de l'association « Mouvement des Arts » et j'ai pu ainsi participer à leurs expositions où j'ai montré des portrait-catures et des tableaux que vous pourrez retrouver sur le site: www:mouvementsdesarts.fr

I was born on 11.08.1938 in Salford, near Manchester, England, into a family of 7 children. When I was seven years old my father, a fireman, was unfortunately killed on the last day of the Second World War in a road accident leaving my mother with the responsibility to bring up the children on her own.
From a very early age I would draw whenever I could utilising old envelopes, used paper etc. Whilst at school I used to draw and make up a cartoon paper to amuse my friends.
At the age of 11 I won first prize in a competition run by the local paper, the Salford City Reporter with a drawing of a nearby church winning the grand sum of 10 shillings (50 pence).
Although I was offered a place at the Salford College of Art at the age of 15, I was unable to take this up as my mother was not in a financial position to afford the cost of supporting me whilst I trained and it was necessary that I took up employment to contribute towards the family finances. I became a 5 year bound apprentice plumber, attending college to successfully gain the appropriate qualifications for this and other aspects of building construction.
I enjoyed training for the building profession and this did not deter me from continuing to do my artwork and to experiment in various mediums as a hobby and a form of relaxation during my working career with additional paid commission work. I particularly enjoyed doing water colour paintings and pencil drawings of film and pop stars of the era and screen and comic cartoon characters.
My work was based mainly within the construction industry initially and then the leisure industry and involved working in nightclubs, hotels, casinos, restaurants and public houses covering all aspects of management. This experience together with my artistic appreciation proved invaluable with both the setting up and running of my own night club and other undertakings later on including a public house.
1. To own and run a successful nightclub, which I did during the 1970s under the name of 'Roystons' after working in several top clubs in Manchester.
2. To move to the south of France in order to concentrate on my painting with a view to developing and turning my hobby into a more commercial success. Having come to live in Hyères in the Var area of France, I am now making this a reality.
